Hi! my name is Liss Ann Wolfe – no jokes about the surname please, it’s very appropriate for a Veterinary Nurse! I’ve been a qualified V.N. since 1995, although it seems like only yesterday that I as observing my first surgical procedure (a lumpectomy on a very fat dog!), wondering if I would faint. Happily enough, I didn’t then and haven’t since. Before training as a V.N. I completed a B.A. in Psychology at Strathclyde University where I learned about very different behavioural problems than the ones I deal with in the animal world. Freud, unfortunately, can’t help me with a puppy that refuses to be house trained!
One aspect of my job that I consider the most rewarding are the puppy socialisation classes or ‘Puppy Parties’ that I run at the practice. I get the chance to see the puppies develop in temperament and training from a very early age in an atmosphere that’s fun for both the owners and the puppies themselves. Watching a group of puppies of different breeds chase each other madly around the room is often hilarious – especially when it’s a Yorkshire Terrier chasing a German Shepherd!
