PET PASSPORT

To be granted a pet passport, your pet must be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies and blood tested.
At the first consultation your pet will be microchipped or any existing chip will be checked. It will also be given a health check and rabies vaccination. One month later a blood sample will be taken to check the level of rabies antibodies. An unsatisfactory result will require a second vaccine and another blood test.

In most situations only one vaccine will be required which will need to be boosted every two years. If your pet has not been re-vaccinated by the ‘valid until’ date on its passport, it will have to be re-vaccinated and blood tested again.

Under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS), your pet may not re-enter the UK until six calendar months have passed from the date of the blood sample. Ideally, if you are planning to take your pet on holiday, you should begin proceedings at least seven months before travelling.

Before re-entering the UK, your pet must be treated by a vet against tapeworm and ticks. This must be done within 48hrs of returning to the UK.
